The Rottweiler is one of the oldest and most famous service breeds, dating back to the days of ancient Rome. Their ancestors accompanied legionaries, guarded camps and drove cattle. Later, in the German city of Rottweil, these dogs became indispensable helpers of butchers and property guards, which determined the modern name of the breed. The Rottweiler has a powerful, muscular build, a broad chest and a short, dense coat with a thick undercoat, which protects well from the weather.
This is a large breed of dog: the average height at the withers in males reaches 61-68 cm, in females – 56-63 cm. Weight usually ranges from 40 to 60 kg, depending on sex and housing conditions. With its appearance, the Rottweiler always gives the impression of strength and confidence.
Rottweilers are known for their balanced but determined character. They are loyal dogs that are great for guarding, but also become affectionate and calm around the family. They are intelligent, quick to learn and appreciate their owner’s authority. Proper upbringing and socialization make the Rottweiler a reliable friend and guard.
Babies of this breed are active, playful and very inquisitive. They grow quickly, so from an early age they need proper discipline and clear education. In childhood, the Rottweiler needs even more careful care for the coat, because the undercoat is actively formed.
Classically distinguish German Rottweiler and American Rottweiler, which differ in appearance standards and application in different countries. Separately, the so-called Royal Rottweiler is often mentioned – this is not an officially recognized standard, but rather a folk name for the largest representatives of the breed. Royal Rottweiler has a massive backbone and impressive size, so it amazes with its strength and majesty.
Despite its short coat, the Rottweiler needs regular and competent grooming. His undercoat is thick, so during molting, the hair falls out in large quantities. The main procedures are:
Combing – it is recommended to comb the Rottweiler 1-2 times a week, and during periods of active shedding – daily. This reduces the amount of hair in the house and allows the skin to breathe.
Bathing – optimally once every 1.5-2 months or as needed. Use special shampoos for dogs with sensitive skin.
Skin care – in a Rottweiler it can be prone to irritations, so proper cosmetics and regular checkups help avoid problems.
Claw clipping is an important procedure, as overly long claws affect posture and movement.
Ear and teeth cleaning – helps maintain hygiene and prevents infections.

✅ Bathing with professional cosmetics:
Before bathing, the dog is combed thoroughly to remove some of the dead undercoat. In the bath, the Rottweiler is placed on a special anti-slip surface to make him feel secure. The water temperature is controlled - neither hot nor cold. First, the coat is well wet, after which the groomer applies shampoo with light massage movements, washing the coat and undercoat. Special attention is paid to the neck, chest and hind legs, where the coat is most dense. Then a conditioner or mask is used, which closes the scales of the coat and adds shine. Everything is rinsed off thoroughly so that no cosmetics are left on the skin.
✅ Combing and deshedding:
After bathing, the coat is force-dried, which is a powerful stream of air that blows out any remaining undercoat. The groomer works from neck to tail to make sure the coat lays down properly. Then special tools are used - furminator, carder or fluffer, depending on the density of the undercoat. Combing is done gradually: first the large areas (back, sides), then more delicate (belly, tail, paws). This removes dead hair, stimulates circulation and allows the skin to breathe.
✅ S kin care:
After the basic treatments, the coat is examined again. If the Rottweiler has dryness or irritation, restorative serums are used and applied topically to the problem areas. The groomer may also give a light massage while applying conditioner or balm to soothe the dog and improve circulation.
✅ Nail clipping:
The nails are trimmed with a special claw cutter. The groomer works carefully to avoid touching the sensitive pulp inside the nail. After trimming, the tips are polished with a cutter or file so that they are smooth and do not cling to the floor. This prevents cracking and discomfort while walking.
✅ Cleaning the ears:
Ears are wiped with cotton pads with a special lotion that dissolves dirt and wax. All movements are gentle and careful not to traumatize the delicate skin of the ear canal. If necessary, remove excess hair at the entrance to the ear to ensure ventilation.
✅ Dental hygiene:
The salon may clean your teeth with a special brush or wipes with an antiseptic solution. This helps to remove plaque and freshen breath. For prevention, groomers often advise owners to chew or regular at-home brushing.
✅ Paw care:
Paw pads are inspected for cracks or damage. If necessary, a moisturizing balm is applied. Dirt and hair is brushed out between the toes to prevent tangles and moisture accumulation.
✅ Final step:
After all procedures, the dog is combed once more, and an antistatic spray or finishing conditioner may be applied to the coat for shine. A "before and after" photo is taken so the owner can see the difference. The Rottweiler leaves the salon clean, fresh and with a beautiful shiny coat.
