Adopt an animal from a shelter: love that money can’t buy

There are thousands of animals waiting for homes in shelters every day. They don’t always have papers, perfect looks or fancy origins, but each one of them has a heart that can love without limits. A dog or cat from a shelter did not choose their fate – they were betrayed, thrown away or simply never truly loved. And it is you who can change that.

Many people spend mad money to buy a purebred pet. But what if instead you gave a chance to someone who has already gone through pain, but hasn’t lost faith in humans? A shelter animal will never take you for granted. It will be grateful for every touch, every bowl, every night. And that gratitude is sincere, quiet, unbreakable.

Adoption is not pity. It is the most conscious choice

Do not think that animals from the shelter – “second class”. Many of them have been vaccinated, sterilized, socialized. They can be extremely intelligent, contactable, protective or affectionate – each with their own story. And sometimes even with a “thoroughbred” appearance.

The adoption procedure is usually simple:

  1. You meet the animal at the shelter or on a volunteer page.

  2. You fill out a short questionnaire (this is to make sure that you will not be forced to give up the animal).

  3. You may be asked to sign a custody agreement.

  4. And that’s it – a new life begins.

And the main thing: it’s free, but not “for free“. Because in return you will receive love, which can not be bought for any money.

How is the adoption procedure in Ukraine

Shelters and municipal centers work according to the following scheme:

  1. Familiarization with the animals

    • Visiting the shelter or viewing an online map – for example, through Kyiv Digital services

  2. Application/questionnaire

    • You fill in a short questionnaire: information about your experience, living conditions, whether there are other animals. It’s just a way to make sure you’ll be able to care. Don’t worry.

  3. Transfer Agreement

    • A contract for temporary or permanent housing is signed. At CP CHC, for example, this is standardized: the document protects both parties.

  4. Quarantine and prevention

    • All animals undergo a quarantine period (about 14 days) with veterinary examination, vaccination and chipping.

  5. Transfer to your family

    • After quarantine, the animal is ready to be moved. You will be handed him over to you with his papers and care recommendations.

  6. Registration and paperwork

    • According to the new rules, cats and dogs are registered in the Unified State Register of Pets (through the CNAP or a veterinarian) – enter data on the chip, vaccination, and owner.

This procedure is a formalization of the relationship with the new Pet: according to the law – he is yours, you are responsible and have rights.

He will love you – for real

An animal taken from a shelter often looks at the owner not as an owner, but as someone who saved his life. It doesn’t demand, it doesn’t get cranky, it doesn’t pretend. It’s just there for you. Sometimes silently. Sometimes with eyes that have the whole universe in them. And this love can be much deeper than the most expensive pedigree pet from an elite kennel.

If you want a real friend, not a status – look not in the catalog, but in the animal shelter. Perhaps it is there that someone with ears, a tail and a big heart that really wants to love someone is already waiting for you.
