The Collie is a dog that charms with its nobility at first sight. Elegant, poised and extremely gentle, this breed has become a symbol of charm and loyalty. Its origin comes from Scotland, where collies for centuries helped to herd sheep, showing remarkable attention, endurance and sensitivity to the command of the shepherd. Today, however, it is not only a wonderful companion, but also an ideal family pet with exquisite looks and a friendly heart.
It is a medium-sized dog with a graceful, harmonious build. The height at the withers is 51-61 cm in males and 56-61 cm in females, weight – on average from 18 to 30 kg. The most famous is the long-haired variation, but there is also a short-haired collie. The coat is long, straight, with a soft, dense undercoat that protects it from the weather. Colors include sable with white, tricolor, blue merle, black with white, red. The Collie always looks noble – like a dog from the cover of an old novel.
Collie puppies
Collie puppies are a real tenderness in a four-legged body. From an early age they impress with their affection, intelligence and ability to learn. Responsible breeders with documents and pedigree price in Ukraine starts approximately from 15 000 to 30 000 UAH. The cost may increase for puppies with show potential. But the main thing is not medals, but the special harmony that arises between the collie and his family. They are loved not for their spectacularity, but for the depth of their soul.
The character of the collie
This is a real gentleman in the dog world. Collie is obedient, calm, understands the owner with half a glance, easily adapts to the rhythm of family life. He is affectionate with children, patient, never shows aggression, but clearly feels the mood and is always there when needed. His intelligence is not showy, as in service breeds, but deep – this is a dog that knows how to be a support. The Collie loves walks, but doesn’t need extreme exercise. It is the perfect breed for those who value loyalty, intelligence and peace of mind in a dog.
Grooming for Collies
A collie’s luxurious coat is a responsibility. The undercoat is dense, shedding seasonally, and the long strands can easily become tangled if not combed out regularly. Without proper care, the coat loses its luster, starts to pile up and gets in the dog’s way. Ear hygiene, paw hygiene, intimate area hygiene, regular combing and cosmetic care are all critical to your pet’s health and comfort. There is no need for a collie haircut, only possible trimming of the coat along the body and clipping in hygienic areas.
In V.O.G DOG SALON in Kiev groomers know well the peculiarities of collie care. We carefully work with long hair, use professional cosmetics, correctly select tools, and most importantly – provide a calm atmosphere without stress. Enroll your Beloved to us and you will see her glow from the inside out. Because real care is care that a collie feels with every cell.
- Regular combing of the undercoat:
Collies have a dense two-layer coat with a rich undercoat. Without regular deep combing, the coat will quickly pile up, especially in the area behind the ears, on the flanks and on the hips. Brushing removes dead hairs, stimulates circulation, prevents overheating in warm weather and significantly reduces the amount of hair in the house.
- Bathing using professional cosmetics:
A collie's coat quickly absorbs dirt, dust and grease. We use specialized shampoos and conditioners that gently cleanse the skin without washing out the natural protective layer. After a quality wash, the coat becomes soft, shiny and tangle-free.
- Express shedding with a mask:
This is a must-have treatment for collies during seasonal hair loss. The special mask opens up the coat structure, "flushes out" excess undercoat, nourishes the skin and makes combing easier. Thanks to express shedding, the coat looks well-groomed and shedding in the house is reduced many times over.
- Hygienic grooming:
Trimming the coat in the genital area, under the tail and between the paw pads prevents dirt, dirt clinging and the spread of bacteria. These areas are often overlooked in the home, but they are the first to cause discomfort to the dog.
- Nail Trimming:
Collie dogs have active lifestyles, but even this is not enough for natural nail sharpening. Nails that are too long can distort the position of the paws, causing pain and even injury. We use professional tools to make trimming fast, safe and painless.
- Ear cleaning:
Due to active walks and mobility, collies often accumulate dust and dirt in their ears. If they are not cleaned regularly, inflammation, odor and itching can occur. We gently clean without trauma, using antiseptic agents.
- Eye Care:
The collie dog has open, sensitive eyes that are prone to tearfulness. This is especially noticeable after walks or windy weather. We gently cleanse the eye area of tear tracks and dirt, which prevents irritation and pigmentation of the coat.
- Teeth brushing:
Collies are highly intelligent but cannot take care of their own oral hygiene :) Without regular care there is plaque, tartar, bad odor and risk of gum disease. At the salon, we perform safe dental hygiene with a brush and a special product that does not need to be rinsed off.
No, this breed should not be completely machine cut. The Collie's coat has an important protective function: in summer it prevents overheating and in winter it keeps them warm. At V.O.G DOG SALON we only perform hygienic haircuts - we treat the paws, the area under the tail and, if necessary, gently correct the length of the coat in certain areas to avoid the formation of tangles.
Optimally once every 4-6 weeks. This allows you to keep your Collie's coat in good condition, prevent the formation of tangles and control shedding. During the period of active hair loss (spring/autumn) it is advisable to do it more often - once every 3-4 weeks, especially with the express shedding procedure.
Yes, very much so. Especially during the seasonal shedding period. To reduce hair loss at home, we perform professional combing of the undercoat and apply special masks that make combing and grooming easier. It is practically impossible to completely remove the undercoat at home - only salon procedures give noticeable results.
The standard package includes: washing with special cosmetics, drying, combing out the undercoat, treatment of paws and tail area, cleaning of ears, eyes, clipping of nails. On request, an express shedding or teeth brushing can be added.
You can if it is not a severe case. Our masters use special sprays and tools that allow you to gently untangle the coat without pain. But if the tangles are dense and large, shearing of certain areas may be unavoidable.
This is a very sensitive and intelligent breed. If the dog is not yet accustomed to the procedures, we approach them gradually: we familiarize them, let them smell the instruments, and speak in a calm voice. Our masters know how to find an approach even to the most cautious Borderers.
Only premium professional, specially formulated for dogs with undercoat, such as collies. It gently cleanses, moisturizes the skin, preserves the structure of the long coat and does not cause allergies. The shampoo and mask are individually tailored to your dog's coat condition, season and needs.
Yes, and it's very noticeable. During the seasonal molt, Collies shed a large amount of undercoat that is difficult to completely comb out at home. Express shedding at the salon helps to effectively remove dead hair, reduce hair loss in the house, improve skin ventilation and prevent the formation of tangles. In addition, special masks nourish the skin and facilitate further care.
