Why is the choice of grooming products not a trivial matter?
Often owners don’t even realize that itching, redness, tearing, sneezing or rashes are the result of using the wrong shampoo or conditioner. And while for humans it may be a mild allergic reaction, for a dog with sensitive skin it can be a serious inflammation fraught with complications. So always choose a shampoo or conditioner for dogs only.
The most vulnerable are breeds with thin skin, white or light-colored coats, hereditary predisposition to allergies, as well as puppies and animals after stress or illness. But allergies can occur even in the healthiest pet, simply from a shampoo that is too aggressive or a synthetic fragrance.
That’s why choosing the right grooming products is critical. Here are the main criteria we look for when it comes to safety for allergy sufferers:
No sulfates (especially SLS and SLES) – these are foaming agents that can aggressively degrease the skin and cause itching and irritation.
No parabens – preservatives that are sometimes linked to hormonal disruptions and skin hypersensitivity.
No artificial fragrances and dyes – these are the components most often associated with allergic reactions in humans and animals.
Neutral or adapted pH – animal skin has a different acid-alkaline balance than human skin, so it is important that the product does not disturb it.
Presence of natural soothing ingredients – aloe vera, chamomile, oats, calendula, shea butter, silk or rice proteins.
Certification of the means and transparent composition – we avoid “surprises” in the form of hidden chemicals, and choose only what has been openly and honestly tested.
It is worth emphasizing: even “eco” or “organic” products can cause a reaction if they are not chosen correctly. For example, essential oils – although natural, but very concentrated and sometimes aggressive for allergy sufferers. That’s why there is no room for random choices in grooming – every drop of shampoo must be thoughtfully selected.
It is on this basis that we base our selection of products at V.O.G DOG SALON.
Analyzing the products we use at V.O.G DOG SALON
In our network, we deliberately choose only trusted brands that have proven themselves when working with animals with sensitive skin or allergies. We don’t focus on big names – we analyze formulations, monitor animal reactions, collect feedback from owners and industry colleagues to ensure safe and quality care.
BURBUR
BURBUR is a brand we appreciate for its minimalist formulas without unnecessary irritants and for its special hypoallergenic series. Their products are created on the basis of mild surfactants (surfactants), without colorants and with the most neutral fragrance, which practically does not remain on the animal’s body. Lines labeled Sensitive or Hypoallergenic have soothing ingredients like oat extract, panthenol and glycerin that both cleanse and moisturize the skin. BURBUR is especially good for ornamental breeds with white coats, and for animals after recovery or vaccination.
DAVIS shampoo
The American brand DAVIS is one of the leaders in the veterinary-cosmetic direction, specializing in solving dermatological problems. Products of this brand are used even in veterinary clinics. In V.O.G DOG SALON we use their therapeutic shampoos for animals with chlorhexidine, ketoconazole, colloidal oats, as well as shampoo for dogs professional with seborrhea or fungal problems. But most importantly, DAVIS has formulas for very sensitive skin that do not cause irritation, even if there are active active ingredients. It is the perfect choice for allergy sufferers who need delicate but effective care.
ISLE OF DOGS
ISLE OF DOGS is a British-American brand known for its aesthetic yet functional approach to grooming. Many of the brand’s products contain no synthetic fragrances or have subtle, natural scents based on essential oils. Their formulas are designed to have an optimal pH for dog skin (around 7) to prevent dryness, itching and microcracks. ISLE OF DOGS features light textures and the active action of natural extracts, such as green tea, calendula and silk proteins. These products do not leave a “film” on the coat, do not weigh it down and are perfect for allergy sufferers as well as for animals with long hair.
ARTERO
The Spanish brand ARTERO has been used for decades in the grooming community as a benchmark for professional care, including for animals with special needs. In our network we favor their Basic or Sensitive series, created especially for sensitive skin. ARTERO formulas typically contain bisabolol (chamomile active), oat extract, calendula oil, and fragrances with low allergenic potential. Their shampoos rinse off easily, do not cause dry skin, and have an anti-static effect, which is especially important for long-haired breeds. Another advantage is the high level of cleaning with a very gentle action, which makes it possible to wash even very reactive allergy sufferers.
IV SAN BERNARD
IV SAN BERNARD is an entire philosophy of skin and coat health. Their products are formulated with aloe vera extracts, silk proteins, oats, coconut oil, yet have fragrance-free ranges for the most sensitive animals. We especially use a series designed to restore skin after irritations or allergies. These products deeply moisturize without disturbing the natural hydro-balance and are EU certified.
At V.O.G DOG SALON, allergy sufferers are more relaxed and safer
We believe that beauty should never come at the cost of health. That is why at V.O.G DOG SALON allergy care is a customary practice built on experience, caution and deep understanding. Our groomers are specially trained to work with sensitive skin and hypoallergenic products. We analyze each case individually, select formulas for a particular animal, test the reaction to the means, and never use “what we got”.
Our work is centered on the safety and comfort of the animal, so we are always ready:
use the most gentle products from hypoallergenic lines
replace the product if there are doubts even after the first application
work with your product, if you have already selected one from the veterinarian.
advise on home care to avoid repeated irritation.
And most importantly: we very much ask owners to inform us of any signs of allergies – rashes, redness, itching, excessive flaking, changes in the animal’s behavior after the procedures. After all, even the best quality product may not be ideal for a particular organism. The individuality of each animal is our main reference point. Therefore, at the first signs of a reaction, we change the care immediatelyto prevent the symptoms from intensifying or stressing the Pet.
At V.O.G DOG SALON, we know which products are safe for allergy sufferers and how to make sure that every pet, regardless of its characteristics, is happy and comfortable.
