What has changed for train passengers with animals?

Previously, owners of large dogs often faced problems: transportation was not allowed in all trains, and in many cases the requirements were so strict that travel became almost unrealistic. Now the UZD has made a step towards passengers. Dogs over 45 centimeters in withers can travel even in high-speed Intercity+, in SV and RIC cars. The main condition is to buy all seats in a compartment or the whole block in the car to avoid conflicts with neighbors. In the trains of regional communication for them left a special place – the vestibule of the first or last carriage, where the animal will be under the control of the owner. But it is still impossible to travel with a large dog in a parlor car – the open space simply does not allow to ensure safety for all.

Traveling with small pets

For cats, small dogs, rodents or even birds, the rules have become much simpler. Whereas rigid containers used to be required, now a carry-on bag or backpack with a waterproof bottom is sufficient. And if a passenger has bought a whole compartment, you can do without a carrier at all, and the animal will travel next to you. In Intercity, the carrier can be placed on the carry-on shelves or held on your lap. These changes make traveling less stressful for both people and animals: you don’t have to worry about bulky cages and complicated conditions.

General rules and exceptions

What has remained unchanged is the mandatory pet ticket, issued as a baggage check at the 20-kilogram fare, and veterinary documents. Large dogs must have a leash and muzzle, and the owner must provide bedding and cleaning supplies. At the same time, service dogs and guide dogs have a special status: they travel free of charge and without buying extra seats. If during the trip it turns out that a neighbor has allergies or is uncomfortable, the conductors will help to settle the situation and find another seat.

As a result, the new rules have made traveling with animals much easier. They allow you to take pets with you with almost no restrictions, but they clearly spell out safety and liability conditions. This is a compromise between the comfort of owners and the interests of other passengers that was really needed.
