Why the result may not live up to expectations

You brought your Beloved to the salon, hoping to see your Ponytail with the perfect haircut, and in return… your heart sinks: “Is this really my yorkie?” This reaction is familiar to many owners – especially those who have taken their dog to the grooming salon for the first time. But it’s worth looking into why it happens.

Sometimes it’s not the groomer at all, but expectations that weren’t clearly communicated. You imagined an airy haircut with wavy bangs, but the groomer understood your words as “as comfortable and short as possible”. In addition, yorkies have individual features of the coat: some have silky and shape-holding hair, while others are loose and easily tousled. This has a big impact on the final look.

One more thing: not all yorkies behave calmly on the table. If the dog was twitching, twisting or nervous, which is common with yorkies, the groomer may have adapted the haircut so as not to traumatize your pet.

Your first actions

After seeing the result, the first thing you want to do is exhale indignantly and take the dog home. But it’s better to stop and act wisely.

Examine your dog carefully. Ask the master: why this particular length was chosen? Why more was taken off the legs? Were there any tangles or other reasons for correction? In 90% of cases everything is explained logically.

If you are really dissatisfied – say so. Not rudely, not with anger, but sincerely. A good salon will listen to your opinion and try to correct the situation – for example, trim, offer a bonus for the next time or just give advice on how best to wait for regrowth.

The worst thing to do is to keep quiet, take offense and never come back. Salons that respect their clients always appreciate feedback and are willing to get better.

Is there anything that can be fixed?

Don’t be in a hurry to panic – even if your yorkie wasn’t cut the way you wanted, it’s not a judgment call. Most dogs of this breed have a fairly fast rate of hair growth. And what looks too short or “off” today will be softer in a week or two.

In some cases, it is worthwhile to arrange for a correction. If there is an imbalance in the length of the paws, asymmetry of the muzzle or other small imperfections – a professional groomer will be happy to correct them, if you apply in time.

There are also small tricks: add a bow, wear light clothes or a scarf, use a spray for shine – and even a bad haircut of a yorkie will look well-groomed and cute. And the main thing is that the dog remains healthy, clean, without tangles, and this is much more important than the “hairdresser’s ideal”.

How to avoid this in the future

To prevent this situation from repeating, it is worth turning every appointment for grooming into a friendly dialog. Show the master a photo – not one, but several, from different angles. Don’t be afraid to voice all the little things: “to leave the ears”, “rounded face, not wedge-shaped”, “fluffy paws, but not ball-shaped”. The more details – the more chances that the result will be exactly as you expect.

Additionally, ask if the salon has experience with yorkies. This is really important – because the breed has its own nuances in the texture of the coat and the formation of the silhouette. And of course, always read reviews and look through the portfolio.
