The dog is man’s best friend. Throughout human history, it has been believed that this is the case, and this belief has never been unfounded. We all know the loyalty of dogs. If you delve into the past, their ancestors that humans domesticated – wolves – are known for their pack loyalty. First of all, they form a pair for life, and secondly, although there are clear hierarchical relationships in separate groups, they treat each member of the pack very carefully and do not allow, if possible, external dangers to offend one or another member of their family, and there are even cases when they may take revenge on other animals for the death of one of their brothers. So it’s hard to imagine our domesticated four-legged friends any other way.
Reasons for such behavior
If you are a dog owner, then when returning home or from work, from a walk or from any other place, always observe the image when your faithful dog, actively wagging his tail and with a “smiling” face, meets you on your doorstep. And do not doubt that all this time he missed you and could not wait for your return, even if the separation was short. What is the source of this behavior in dogs? In fact, there are various reasons, most of which should not be surprising or alarming, but some should be noted.
The first reason for this behavior we already mentioned at the beginning of our article. The reason is their nature and character. Dogs are by nature very friendly animals. There are cases in which a dog has an aggressive nature, but this is not the norm, especially if it also attacks its master, this should not be the case. This may speak of some health problems, mental disorders or an aggressive attitude towards the dog on the part of people or the owner. If we are talking about the latter, then when life circumstances change, for example, the dog gets into caring and loving hands, it changes its behavior and stops aggressively lashing out at people. This is what speaks of their true nature, because in certain circumstances they defend themselves, but their good nature always remains with them.
The breed of the dog also plays a role. There are some breeds that are calmer and more balanced in showing emotions, but there are also some that can’t hide their feelings. If we’re talking about a Border Collie or Jack Russell Terrier, for example, then don’t be surprised if they too actively recognize their owner after a breakup, you can say they “run on the ceiling” with joy. In addition to the fact that these and many other breeds have a choleric type of temperament, so they are also very attached to the person close to them, so when they meet, they turn into a real wind engine that is difficult to calm down. There are also breeds that are attached to a person with a strong bond, but not so clearly manifest it. Such can include the labrador, beagle or basset hound. But their modest response does not mean that they love their person less than others. It is worth noting that even within the same breed, animals can react differently to meeting their owner. So don’t be surprised by this, as each dog has its own peculiarities.
Level of closeness with the owner. Sometimes the relationship between a pony and its owner is either very close, or more like a business relationship. The reaction to the owner can also depend on this. This is mainly influenced by the owner’s relationship with the pony, rather than the nature of the dog itself. If you spend a lot of time with him playing, petting and relaxing, then naturally the dog will look forward to these moments. But if, on the contrary, you demonstrate a more calm, balanced or even cold approach to your pet, most likely the animal will react the same way, because our animals are good enough to read human emotions and imitate them. It is not without reason that you can often see that a dog’s character is similar to its master.
Showing affection or gratitude. Dogs are intelligent creatures. They are capable of remembering many things. Therefore, if you invest a lot of time, love, attention and care in your pet, he will certainly be very grateful and try to show it in different ways. Some tails will make noises and shriek when they meet you, others will come up and wag their tails, and thirds will poke your hand or leg with their noses to show that they have finally waited for a loved one and want to spend the time with you that they missed so much during your absence.
Length of separation. A long separation can affect a dog’s behavior when meeting a loved one. Recall the famous faithful dog Hachiko. His story didn’t end with meeting his beloved master, but that didn’t stop him from remembering the man with whom he spent the wonderful young years of his life all his life. And there is no doubt that if they had met, Hachiko would have been infinitely happy to see him again, as evidenced by his decision to faithfully wait for his master at the station for the rest of his life, where the dog met him every day when the man returned from work. There are also those Tails who, after a long separation, turn away from a loved one for a while. This in no way suggests that the dog has forgotten you. It is simply that it is so strongly attached to its owner that it has taken offense and “took too much to heart” such a separation. So try not to adopt an attitude, if this happens, continue to spend time with your dog, because a long separation can traumatize his delicate soul and it is natural. In time, he will put these transgressions behind him, and your friendship will once again be as strong as it once was.
Discomfort. Sometimes a dog may be disturbed by something, for example: a severe mental condition, trauma, bodily discomfort, illness, parasites or just a dog that is very hungry. Usually this state is slightly different from the usual behavior when meeting the owner. It will be more like agitation, as if the Tail is asking for help. Therefore, it is a good idea to pay attention to the dog’s wishes and, if there is no apparent or controllable cause, contact a veterinarian or groomer to identify the cause of this behavior.
If you have difficulties and questions, we offer the services of V.O.G. DOG SALON, a groomer salon, where we can help identify the causes and resolve them.
The most friendly dog breeds
Each breed has its own character traits. Some are calm, others are mischievous, some are more dependent on humans, and others don’t mind being alone. Each dog of any breed can be different from its species and each of them is unique. If we talk about dogs that are most likely to meet their owners, we can remember some breeds that are very loyal to their loved ones.
Border Collie. Active herding dogs. They are very friendly, especially towards their master, so when they meet him, they can’t sit still and start running, circling, jumping and barking. They are also quite intelligent.
Jack Russell Terrier. Extremely restless dogs, they constantly want to play and will never refuse active recreation with a loved one. When they meet their owner, they clearly show their emotions.
Beagles. These are moderately active, but very sensitive dogs. To win their affection is sometimes not easy, but if you succeed, the Beagle will serve you faithfully. These dogs have a hard time withstanding separation from their owner and are even prone to depression if they do not see him for a long time.
Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever. These breeds have a similar character. They are calmer than Border Collies or Terriers, but that doesn’t stop them from missing their owner and being happy to see him, although their emotions are more restrained.
Sheepdog. This breed is known for its high intelligence and obedience. They are also characterized by loyalty to a loved one, even if towards other people they are more reserved in showing kindness, certainly not towards the owner.
Bichon Frise. Very cute furry creatures. The appearance of these small dogs evokes only positive emotions. They are very fond of their master. And although they can be used to short solitude, they will never refuse your tail.
Basset Hound. Quiet, unassuming, but very strongly attached to the owner. Although their appearance is rather gloomy, they are extremely friendly and endure loneliness quite hard. And when they meet their owner, their greeting is usually gentle and reserved, as they are very affectionate.
Rottweiler. You may be surprised, but the Rottweiler is bound to its owner by a close emotional bond. We are used to think of them as aggressive and bloodthirsty dogs, perhaps to some extent this opinion and has its place, but it depends entirely on education. If the owner has invested in this dog, he will remember him well and will be very grateful, although compared to other breeds he will be more modest in showing his satisfaction and attachment.
Summary
So we have looked at the possible reasons for a dog’s joy when it meets its owner, but there may be many more, and perhaps we still know too little about our ponies. But what we do know about these animals is already enough to make us love them and enjoy taking care of them.
It is important to keep in mind the upbringing of the animal, as this affects its future relationship with you. Even if the friendliest dog is raised in a cruel way, it will end up aggressively lashing out at people or being intimidated. Conversely, he may react with great joy to meeting others when he is raised by an emotional, positive and active person. If the owner is restrained in manifesting his emotions to the animal, the dog will be calmer. It should be noted that your inner attitude plays a key role, because animals, especially dogs, feel, copy and transmit your emotional state so perfectly that you can say “Tell me what your dog is like, and I’ll tell you what kind of master you are.” But do you agree, how pleasant it is to come home every time you realize that there is always someone there waiting impatiently for you and happy to meet you for the first time.
