The Bombay cat is one of those breeds that cannot be confused with others. Its deep black coat without a single light hair, luster like lacquered silk, and bright copper eyes give the impression that you are looking at a small panther. But behind its predatory appearance lies an extremely gentle, social, and intelligent animal that is very attached to humans.
The breed originated in the United States when breeders wanted to create a cat that looked like a wild panther but had the character of a gentle pet. To do this, they crossed a Burmese cat and an American Shorthair. The result was so spectacular that Bombay cats quickly became popular among people who love elegant and unusual animals.

The character of the Bombay cat
This is one of the most “human” cat breeds. Bombay cats do not like loneliness and often literally follow their owner around the apartment. They like to lie next to you, participate in all household chores, and even “talk” in a quiet, soft voice. At the same time, the breed is not too intrusive or aggressive.
Bombay Longhair gets along well with children and other animals, adapts quickly to a new environment, and loves warmth. Often these cats look for the warmest place in the house – a blanket, radiator, or the owner’s lap.
Care and characteristics of the breed
Despite its luxurious appearance, caring for a Bombay Longhair cat is not difficult. Its short coat hardly ever sheds and does not require constant combing. It is enough to periodically brush it with a soft brush to maintain its shine and remove dead hair.
Particular attention should be paid to nutrition because this breed loves to eat and can gain weight. Bombay cats also need communication and emotional contact very much. It is important for them not just to live in a house but to be part of a family.
Why is the Bombay cat so special?
This breed combines a wild appearance and a very gentle disposition in an amazing way. The Bombay cat looks mysterious, elegant, and even a little mystical, but at home it is an affectionate family member who loves attention, warmth, and tranquility. That is why many owners call Bombay cats “cats with the soul of a dog”-they are so devoted to humans that they often behave in a completely different way from felines.
